Published averages, animated honestly

Rate = published volume ÷ seconds in the reported period. Estimated counter = rate × elapsed time. “Today” starts at 00:00 UTC; “Since opening” starts when you open this page. Projections use exactly 60 seconds or 1 second. Counters animate on each screen refresh using millisecond elapsed time. All animated counters and rate labels display whole numbers; underlying calculations retain full precision. Rates smaller than one unit per second are labeled “less than one” in tile footers. The session timer shows whole seconds and freezes with Pause. Pause freezes the display; Resume catches up with elapsed wall time.

A daily average uses 86,400 seconds. Monthly averages use a stated normalization of 365 ÷ 12 days. H2 2025 uses 184 days; H1 2026 uses 181 days; Q2 2026 uses 91 days. Annual baselines use 365 days. Electricity is shown in MWh; payment volume is in USD. All byte counters display decimal GB (1 GB = 10⁹ bytes). Publishers’ original units remain visible in source baselines. Approximate figures remain approximate; “over” figures are represented as lower-bound baselines. Calendar-month disclosures for May and August 2025 and August 2026 use their actual 31 days; September 2026 uses 30 days. English Wikipedia counters use monthly totals and include automated activity. No growth curve or random fluctuations are invented. Published snapshots remain fixed.

The library was reviewed on 4 October 2026. Original sources were checked on 2 October; additions and the LinkedIn disclosure were checked on 4 October. Each tile’s source details give its check date. The baseline library does not automatically refresh when publishers release new reports. A 2025 baseline is shown as a 2025 baseline, not relabeled as a 2026 measurement. The public Bluesky stream is fetched only while connected.

Data creation and LLM requests

The Global DataSphere counter uses the published 2025 industry baseline, including replicated data and offline systems. It does not measure unique new Internet content. Weather and Earth observation counters cover named producers; their scopes can overlap. They are never summed.

All data counters show whole decimal GB. Small rates can round to zero in Per second mode; that reflects display precision rather than missing data. Minute, Today and Since opening modes reveal the accumulated estimate. Message counts, API requests, AI-search queries, and tokens are distinct units. Media reports are labeled, historical periods remain visible, and missing request totals are omitted.
